IMPACT WINS PLAYOFF OPENER 2-1

Toronto, Ontario – The Montreal Impact won its first playoff game by defeating the Toronto Lynx 2-1 last night at Varsity Stadium.

Mauro Biello scored the winning goal in the 62nd minute of play of this very physical game.

“Toronto goalkeeper misjudged Bruno’s (Xavier) cross and was caught out of position,” said the midfielder a few minutes after the game.

After Biello s goal, Impact goalkeeper Paolo Ceccarelli made some key saves to protect the 2-1 lead.

In the first half, Onandi Lowe scored the first goal of the game with a header. Five minutes later, Terry St. Louis received a nice pass by teammate Ricky Titus in front of the net and scored for Toronto.

Lowe was ejected by referee Tony Camacho after receiving two yellow cards for descent in the 25th minute. The Impact played one man short until the end of the first half when Camacho also ejected Toronto defender Frank Spadafina for tripping.
